Our success depends substantially on the use of complex data sets such as customer data, sensory data from our equipment, and data from our business processes. Within our digital transition to a self-designed, cloud-based system (OutSystems) it is essential that we ensure efficient communication between all our systems, end-users and business systems. Samskip has offices in 26 countries across Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. We are a real leader in the innovation and implementation of sustainable and multimodal transport links across Europe. Our office in Cluj-Napoca is central to this growth and innovation with an IT team that works closely with another IT team in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. We are looking to extend the team in Cluj with three more colleagues. It’s busy, it’s fun and every day is different as you work with a diverse range of colleagues to deliver 21st-century solutions for a large portfolio of international customers.
Drive our Digital Transition
As we migrate from our legacy system to a self-designed system (OutSystems), your role is to integrate customer or supplier IT systems with Samskip IT systems for the seamless digital flow of various documents and information. This includes the development of interfaces for automating transport orders from our customers or sending status updates to our customers through EDI connections.
We use the integration platform SeeBurger BIS6, with the B2B solution and Managed File Transfer and we are planning to develop our own API to enable integration with customer’s systems. So, you should be familiar with AS2 / FTP / SQL / http, and you have some understanding of SOAP, REST, XML and APIs. You are also responsive to ad-hoc and changing business priorities as you make a valuable contribution to a great team effort within a dynamic Agile/SCRUM environment.
Within this scenario, your specific activities include:
- Setting up data mappings and the necessary processes;
- Unlocking the JIT data so that our customers enjoy real-time track and trace;
- Developing and maintaining mySamskip API.
At all times you seek to evaluate and define new improvement opportunities so that Samskip becomes even better equipped to offer our customers the best possible service. You will occasionally travel to Rotterdam to meet and work with the IT team there.

Are you result-focused, responsive and ready to roll?
Obviously, to apply for this position you should have a good knowledge and understanding of software development. And it would be great if you have some Transport/Logistics industry experience. But what really matters is that you bring an open-minded and flexible approach to a role in which you need to quickly master new techniques while responding to the pressure of deadlines and last-minute changes in priorities.
With this will come a powerful capacity for critical thinking and problem-solving, and the excellent communication and collaboration skills that will help you thrive in our fast-moving and future-focused work environment. You also know how to influence, negotiate and present information to engage others.
The more technical requirements are:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar, and proven working experience as a Software Engineer;
- Experience in writing cross-platform interfaces, good C# programming skills, and basic knowledge of EDI communication (EDIFACT, XML and ANSI-X12);
- Willing to learn Outsystems, with experience of OutSystems a plus;
- Knowledge of SQL (MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle SQL, etc.);
- Knowledge of scripting languages and the Agile/SCRUM process;
- A high standard of written and spoken English.
