An energetic instinct for new business opportunities
Your core task in this role is to manage a portfolio of new and existing customers, always with an eye for business growth and improvements. This requires you to support the Sales team by reviewing customer performance data and identifying potential improvements. Based on your analysis, you approach existing and potential customers with new business proposals.
This involves a number of detailed tasks including:
- Reacting rapidly to customer quote requests;
- Maintaining and managing the Samskip social media presence;
- Using external data sources to identify new market opportunities;
- Problem solving and resolution.
Every day is different and there are no fixed ways of operating in this ever-changing commercial environment. Results are everything and you need to be a flexible self-starter who can re-prioritise as the day develops. As you learn the business you will be given more and more autonomy.
There is every chance that you will join strategic projects as Samskip forms plans to enter a new market space in the transport sector. In doing so you will work with the rest of the sales team to identify new opportunities and translate that into action and ultimate success.
There will be occasional travel as required within the UK and to our company HQ in Rotterdam. It may be possible to work from home some of the time.

Ideally, you have some experience in the logistics industry or you are currently in a role that hunts for new opportunities and translates them into sales action. But we know that you can ‘learn’ the industry, so far more important is your ability to adjust and react to external factors and communicate with colleagues and customers by sharing knowledge in the right way. Above all, this role demands a desire to succeed and win, and to commit to a company that can help you to grow your career.
The formal requirements are:
- Degree or equivalent through experience;
- Computer literate with regard to Microsoft suite (Excel, Powerpoint, Word etc);
- Awareness and understanding of social media;
- Business generation skills including cold calling;
- Fluent written and spoken English, with any other language(s) an advantage.
